These are the Independent Olympic Athletes. They are athletes without nations. The three pictures are from The Netherlands Antilles, whose government was dissolved in 2010. The country was allowed to maintain an olympic committee until the IOC revoked its membership last June. All three athletes; Philipine van Aanhol, Reginald de Windt and Liemarvin Bonevacia qualified in their indivisual events and have been allowed to compete under the Olympic flag.
The fourth Independent Olympic Athlete, Guor Morial of South Sudan elected not to march with this contingent…most likely because he can’t dance.
